We’ve got you covered: A great workout is just the tip of the iceberg. There’s a reason why spinners are so popular today—a great spin class can be a workout, social event, dance party, therapy session, and TedTalk in one 45-minute class.
If you’re ready to take the plunge (or spin) into the world of spinning, here’s what you need to know as a newbie!
First things first – what is the Loop class? Although the nuances of the class may vary from studio to studio, they all have some important similarities. Most (if not all) of the workout will be on a stationary bike.
Maybe: “Cycling on a stationary bike for 45 minutes seems a bit boring.” But we promise – something else. The instructor will guide you through sections of heavy pedaling, fast walking, standing up, arm targeting…the options are endless. What’s more, these teachers are good at inspiring their classes and pushing boundaries—enthusiasm is contagious. You may find yourself screaming in class!
Best Indoor Cycling Studios In Austin, Tx
A 45-minute flight with loud music and an enthusiastic instructor, and you’ll have one of the best workouts of your life.
Just booked your first class? Here are some tips to help you prepare! What to do before your first spin class:
If you are new to riding classes, we recommend that you go to your class early for a short introduction and enough time to rent shoes and set up your bike. Teachers have more time to go through a simple introduction than 10-15 minutes before the class starts. So the sooner you arrive, the sooner you’ll get used to exercise!
Most cycling classes require special cycling shoes for safe and efficient cycling – so be prepared to pay extra! Most cyclists decide to buy their own pair of cycling shoes after a while so they don’t have to deal with rental fees.

If you are already cycling with dry shoes, they can be a stationary bike. But you can call your spin studio before class to confirm!
As for clothing, you can show up in your favorite workout clothes, but with some pockets:
For a final note, a towel comes in handy! Most studios will provide a small towel, but we recommend you bring just in case. At some point during class, your nose bleeds!
Water is water, of course. These are high-intensity cardio exercises; You’ll want to squeeze some hydration between the chains.

Bonus tip: Bring headphones if you have ears. These lessons can be very loud!
No one knows how to adjust their bike in their first, second or third bike class – so don’t be afraid to ask for help! Since you enter class early (gold star for you), your teacher or assistant will take the time to get you all set up and organized so that the class is as comfortable as possible.
If you want to be able to set up your bike yourself in the next lesson, take a picture or write down your settings when you’re done, so you can do it yourself next time. Regardless of the number of sessions, the Spanish team is happy to help – just ask!
What to know before your first spin class Not every spin studio is the same – know what you’re getting into!
Cycling And Fitness: What Can A Cyclist Do At The Gym?
Some studios have large windows and natural light. Others are in dark rooms with colored lights that play music. Many studios keep the music and teachers’ microphones playing fast to add to the lively atmosphere.
If you’re someone who doesn’t like surprises, check with your studio to find out what you’re getting. All types of circuit boards have their own unique appeal, but you may have specific preferences. Shopping for studios in your area is your best bet for finding the best studio!
Yes, every new exercise class will come with some sore muscles for a few days after class, but a spin class will take the chat with the pelvis out of the saddle. If you feel pain around your pelvis and back after class, this is normal.
There’s a rule among cyclists known as the “Rule of Three”: If you ride consistently, you won’t get that saddle sore by ride number three!
Building A Metrics Based Indoor Cycling Class
Let’s be real – these classes are all about breathing deeply and sweating through your clothes. Plus, they have a bunch of classes that seem like they rotate full time. It can be hard not to compare yourself to teachers or spinsters – but everyone has to start! Do yourself some favors.
If you’re not ready to kill the workout 100%, there’s no shame in switching it up. By keeping the bike in the down position, you can go for slow laps or rest when needed. Everyone starts somewhere!
In a proper studio, it only takes one spin class to learn what noise is. From gorgeous lighting to high-octane circuits to pumped-up tunes, you’ll have a spin class with an all-day endorphin high and a sweaty post-workout glow.
